Info
Old Stone Fort is a Native American mound site; a hilltop ceremonial enclosure begun 2000 years ago & used at least through the 5th century. It has been identified as, perhaps, the most spectacularly sited sacred area of its period in the U.S. & the largest, most complex hilltop enclosure in the South. Settlers named such enclosures forts. The setting occurs where 2 rivers drop off the Highland Rim plateau in Middle Tennessee & plunge to the level of the Tennessee Central Basin.
